Year in Review
A NOTE FROM NGA PRESIDENT & CEO
2022 was a record year for NGA with expansive growth and new heights set. From victories on Capitol Hill to leading the conversation on the need for a fair and level playing field to helping support and inspire the next generation of talented retail leaders, we achieved exceptional growth in the way NGA serves our members across the country. As we head into 2023 with momentum behind us, NGA is going tokeep doing what it does best – putting NGA members front and center. NGA was proud to celebrate our 40th anniversary throughout 2022. Since its inception, NGA has been the voice of the independent supermarket industry, strongly advocating for policies that allow independent grocers and wholesalers to grow their businesses, create jobs, and serve at the heart of their communities. As confirmed in our updated economic impact study, independents are the backbone of the U.S. economy, responsible for generating more than $250 billion in sales, representing 1.2% of the U.S. gross domestic product. Accounting for 33% of total grocery sales, and creators of more than a million jobs, generating billions in wages and tax revenues, economic engine that is the independent supermarket industry benefits contributing and parallel sectors, from manufacturing to technology to transportation and more. But their strength is felt far beyond the checkout lane as independents are true entrepreneurs, responding to consumer behavior shifts with innovative solutions and grit to succeed in the marketplace. It is our privilege to represent this vibrant and flourishing community of more than 1,800 members and we look forward to continuing to work with you and your teams in the year ahead as the independent supermarkets industry forges ahead in service, innovation and success.
