NGA Commends Progress on Farm Bill

May 28, 2024

Washington, D.C. – On May 24, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture completed its markup of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024, passing the proposed legislation out of committee with bipartisan support. Stephanie Johnson, RDN, Vice President of Government Relations at the National Grocers Association (NGA), expressed strong support for the advancement of a robust Farm Bill this year.

“On behalf of NGA and independent community grocers nationwide, we commend the Committee’s dedication to finalizing the Farm Bill in 2024. Our members play a vital role in providing access to SNAP benefits for millions of participants nationwide. We applaud the inclusion of several NGA priorities, including the permanent ban of EBT transaction processing fees and the protection of retailer sales data. As Committee members return to their districts this week, we urge them to continue discussions with their local independent grocers about the significance of a strong Farm Bill. We look forward to collaborating with members of both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees to ensure the enactment of a bipartisan Farm Bill in 2024.”
