The Nation’s Best Grocery Bagger Competes in Congressional Best Bagger Showdown

May 24, 2024

Washington, D.C. – The National Grocers Association (NGA), the leading national trade association representing independent supermarket retailers, held a Congressional Best Bagger Showdown during its annual Fly-In for Fair Competition, an event during which independent grocers travel to Washington D.C. to advocate on Capitol Hill for policies that create a level playing field in the grocery sector.

The competition took place Wednesday, May 22 between the winner of the 2024 Best Bagger Championship, Madison Ireland of Harmons Neighborhood Grocer and Congresswoman Celeste Maloy (UT-02).

“Grocery bagging is one of the most important customer service skills and it’s always a pleasure to come together and highlight the talent of the nation’s best bagger,” said Greg Ferrara, NGA President & CEO. “We thank Congresswoman Maloy for taking the time to compete in this fun event against a fellow Utahan.”

Ireland won this year’s Best Bagger Championship in March at The NGA Show, the only trade show created exclusively for the grocery industry. The Best Bagger Championship, sponsored by PepsiCo, is held annually during The NGA Show to showcase the talents of the nation’s best grocery baggers in a fun and competitive atmosphere. Contestants are judged by speed, proper bag building technique, weight distribution in the bag, as well as style and attitude.
