What is SNAP Online?

SNAP Online is the capability for grocery retailers to accept payment by SNAP EBT for online grocery orders. It means SNAP participants may use their benefits to purchase groceries the same way more and more Americans shop – by ordering and paying online.

SNAP Online began as a pilot project in 2019, with a limited number of retailer volunteers participating in selected States. Since then, it has become available in all 50 States and Washington DC, at hundreds of different retailers, small and large.

As a grocery retailer, to make SNAP Online available to your customers you must be approved by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). SNAP Online has a separate approval process from brick-and-mortar retail stores and includes a few extra steps. To understand the additional requirements needed for SNAP Online, please review our Retail Criteria & LOI Guidance Document.
